2012, Onto The Next One!

KMA in 2012The Fall 2012 semester brought upon the launch of the Kwantlen Marketing Association. Through the dedication and hard work of our executive team, the club has earned recognition amongst the student body and faculty. It has truly been a rewarding experience so far, motivating us to work even harder and bring the Kwantlen student body more great events and activities!

The Fall 2012 semester started off by rigorous promotions by tabling during Welcome Week and Campus Life Week. Promotions continued by doing in-class presentations throughout September. With the support of the Kwantlen Marketing Faculty, Kwantlen School of Business and the Kwantlen Student Association, the KMA made a name for itself.
This past semester, some memorable experiences include the launch of our first speaker series, branded KMAID (Kwantlen Marketing Association Inspiring Discussion). We had Aaron Cruikshank talk about currents trends in marketing research and content marketing. The event was quite successful through an engaging speech and a well-structured event, which included a group activity involving all the students & instructors! We plan to continue this, as well as provide students other events aside from speakers in 2013.

The KMA also took place in a Movember campaign to increase prostate cancer awareness and to raise funds to help support the cause. The KMA did this by selling Movember inspired wristbands and cupcakes. The KMA also raised funds online through peer donation. At the end of the month, we raised $1,172! We celebrated the success by having a pub social, where our executives, general members and a few new faces attended in a night out filled with laughs, food & beer!

Even though it was a successful semester for the KMA, we feel that there are areas we need to improve in. For example, we would like to engage our general members more and give them the opportunity to contribute more to the club. We have been working on creating committees where general members can exchange their ideas and volunteer to take on tasks. We are very excited for this initiative and will be launching it soon!

As the president of the Kwantlen Marketing Association, it is my duty to ensure that the KMA provides students an opportunity to be a part of a community where they can enhance their personal and professional skills. Through my journey so far in this role, I have learned many lessons, as well as experienced many successes and failures. It is my promise to continue to further develop the KMA and enhance the marketing experience for students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Let’s see where 2013 will take us!
