KPUMA Testimonial by Colby Davidson

Join the KPU MA Team: A Testimonial by Colby Davidson

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to work as part of the KPU Marketing Association? As a student, you receive benefits like ticket promotions, inside tips and study tricks to help you out during the year, and more! But what about volunteering for the team?

There are a number of positions that you could apply to fulfill, either as a Director or an Ambassador to one of the various sections responsible for allowing the KPU MA to function. By volunteering for KPUMA, you can gain valuable experience and make vital connections for your future as well.

Graduates of KPU and past members of the KPU MA continue to find success and great value from their time volunteering as a member of the Marketing Association team. Below, you can find a testimonial by a previous member of the Marketing Association and how she feels about her time volunteering.

As Colby Davidson begins her career after graduation, she took some time to reflect on her role as Director of Social Media and Public Relations, which she held for two and a half years.

“I joined the KPUMA in May of 2020, as a way to connect with a community of students who shared the same interests as me and passion for marketing and business. I also wanted to have an opportunity to gain experience in the field while working towards completing my BBA Marketing Management degree.”

Now, over two and a half years later I could not be more grateful for the connections I’ve made along the way, both socially and professionally. Throughout my time with the club, I grew my social media management skills by working on graphic design, copywriting, and platform management. Being a Director allowed me to develop skills in leadership, mentorship, team building, communication, and adaptability. My time with the club allowed me to foster professional attributes for my future careers and granted me the opportunity to build my network while working on my degree.

I am so proud of the many accomplishments of the club, and I can easily say each year the team grew stronger. We brought valuable virtual events to students and continued to create ways for individuals to connect with alumni and industry professionals (our LinkedIn group – you should join!) The team also had many successful partnerships, and I was able to work on some fantastic social media projects where I was challenged to think outside the box. It has been an absolute privilege being a part of this team and I am so excited to watch how the team continues to grow and succeed.

If you’re wondering if you should join the KPUMA – the answer is simple: YES. Not only did being a part of the club bring me connections socially, but I can also say without a doubt, it has helped me earn all of my professional roles thus far. Being involved with the marketing association is a great way to add experience to your resume, grow your professional skills, and stand out against other applicants. I am now over halfway completing my Melville Business Strategy Internship at a market intelligence agency; in my interview I used experiences I gained through the KPUMA as a way to show my qualifications for the specific role. It was a full circle moment for me, and I was so thrilled I took the opportunity to join the club when I did. I encourage everyone to get involved, grow your network, and build those connections because they are invaluable!

To the current and future members of the KPUMA – keep working hard and contributing to the culture and community at KPU. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
